Appassionato
"The extravagances of Beethoven's genius have reached the 'ne plus ultra' in the seventh symphony and he is quite ripe for the madhouse."
This was the response of the composer Carl Maria von Weber to a work which was possessed of a power and energy hitherto unheard . A work aptly described by Richard Wagner as, ' The apotheosis of the dance '.
Beethoven enquired of things, often uncertain whether there could be relevant answers. He hurled curses at fate, experienced excruciating anger, loved and hated almost in one breath, battled for many causes and fled the human world to the much preferred one of nature.
All of these powerful passions are inherent in music which estabishes him along side Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as one of the three greatest composers of all time.
